U.S. vs. Global Emission Intensity

The U.S. has an emission intensity 2 to 10 times lower than top beef production countries such as Australia, India and Brazil.

Emissions Intensity vs World
  1. The emission intensity of the US beef industry is over two times lower than that of Argentina [(Argentina)33.3372/ (US)13.5409 = 2.46x]
  2. The emissions intensity of the US beef industry is two times lower than that of Australia. [(Australia) 22.0074/ (US) 13.5409= 1.63x]
  3. The emissions intensity of the US beef industry is nearly three times lower than that of Brazil. [(Brazil)39.9941/ (US)13.5409 = 2.95x]
  4. The emissions intensity of the US beef industry is nearly two times lower than that of Canada. [(Canada) 14.7452/ (US)13.5409 = 1.09x]
  5. The emissions intensity of the US beef industry is over nine times lower than that of India [(India)140.9738/ (US) 13.5409 = 10.41x]

The U.S. has had the lowest GHG emission intensity in the world since 1996.

Data Sources and Criteria Used:

On FAOSTAT for Climate Indicators (Emission Intensities) (FAOSTAT), the following criteria were implemented:
Countries = United States of America, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, European Union, India, Mexico, New Zealand
Items = Meat, Cattle
Elements = Emission Intensities
Years = 1961, 2020
