By building a science-based knowledge foundation, research is the cornerstone of all Checkoff-funded marketing, promotion, education and information programs. The Human Nutrition, Product Quality, Safety, Sustainability, and Market Research programs are contained in the Scientific Affairs Department at National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA), a contractor to the Beef Checkoff.

Scientific principles for researchers. Evaluation tools for reviewers including scoring guidelines and resources for submitting reviews.
National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, a contractor to the Beef Checkoff, utilizes BeefGrants for managing the grants process and to facilitate the submission and review of grant materials.
NCBA's Research Roadmaps are developed every 5 years to provide a framework for the research programs by identifying the highest priority research areas and knowledge gaps.
Research beginning in 2026 and continuing through 2030 will be guided by the goals and priorities of these new roadmaps. Recognizing that research is dynamic, projects and approaches may be refined over time to respond to emerging findings, opportunities, and changing needs while remaining aligned with these goals.
Although the 2020–2025 roadmap period has concluded, ongoing research initiated under these roadmaps continues to advance their objectives and address the priority knowledge gaps they identified.
